Some children are intellectually gifted (HPI). They are often characterised by deep curiosity, rapid reasoning, heightened sensitivity and a need to understand the world around them in depth.
These children can flourish fully in an educational environment that respects their pace of learning and feeds their intellectual curiosity.
At the École Montessori Internationale de Nice, we welcome children with varied profiles, including some who are intellectually gifted, within a demanding, caring and structured pedagogical framework.
The Montessori method makes it possible to support children at their own pace of development. Thanks to the individualisation of learning and the richness of the didactic materials, pupils can deepen their knowledge and progress at their own rhythm.
In this environment, intellectually gifted children can:
- move forward more quickly once skills have been mastered
- explore certain areas of knowledge in greater depth
- develop their reasoning and capacity for abstraction
- explore subjects that fascinate them
- conduct research and present their findings
The progression from the concrete to the abstract, characteristic of the Montessori method, also nurtures their deep understanding of concepts.
In Montessori classrooms, children are encouraged to develop a genuine intellectual and scientific approach.
Pupils learn to:
- ask questions
- look for information
- experiment
- organise their thinking
- present their research
Mixed-age classes also help children find their place within a stimulating group, where they can both learn from others and share their own knowledge.
Intellectually gifted children may also display strong emotional sensitivity or a gap between their intellectual development and their emotional maturity.
Our teaching team supports these pupils in their overall development, fostering:
- self-confidence
- cooperation with others
- the expression of emotions
- a balance between intellectual stimulation and personal well-being
The school benefits from the support of an educational psychology team, composed of specialist professionals (psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists), who assist the teaching staff and families whenever necessary.
This team provides:
- assessments when these are useful
- support for specific learning profiles
- guidance for families
- insight to inform the teaching team’s practice
